Hi, I'm Marco, a 67-year-old retiree living in the Netherlands
A life time of hobby photography
I have been photographing since I was about 10 years old. First black & white on 6 x 6 negative film. Later, inspired by my dad, I went on to 35mm B&W negatives and spent many hours in the dark room. Although, analog photography is making its return, I consider it too polluting. For my high school exam, my parents gave me my first mirror reflex camera: at that time (1977) the smallest available i.e. an Olympus OM1. Besides B&W, I turned to 35mm slide positives because these had the most beautiful colours. Later, I made overview slide shows with two projectors and a cassette tape (who still knows what this is?), especially from the travels with my wife.
About 25 years ago I switched to DSLRs (always Nikon: D80 then D500 joined by D850) and recently the final switch was made to mirrorless: Nikon Z8 (fabulous camera). Rest of the gear: see below. Remember: gear is irrelevant if your composition sucks!
My photos are edited by Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and often denoised/sharpened with Topaz Denoise and Topaz Sharpen. Photobooks are prepared in Adobe InDesign with help of Adobe Illustrator for images that demand additional text.
As an active member of Amateur Photoclub 'Beeldspraak' (try any translator), I have developed further in terms of goals, style, creativity... but there's much to learn! Together with three members, we form the '4eyes' photo collective - our goal is to improve creativity by mutual inspiration and feedback. We participate in public expositions regularly e.g. in 'Lichtzone' in Groningen (www.lichtzone.nl).
